West Bitchfield Tower is of 15th century construction and stands side by side with the early 17th century manor house. (2)
As described by Pevsner. The manor house is not outstanding. (3)
West Bitchfield. 15th century tower, with house added on E. side c.1622. Stone, castellated tower with tunnel-vaulted ground floor, and a garderobe. Two-storeyed S. front to 17th century house has centre 6-panelled door in heavily moulded stone case with carved frieze, cornice and curly open pediment, and a 1712 sundial above; 6 4-light "cross" windows on each floor, the lower ones with roll moulded cornices. Parapet with pilaster strips and balls. Lower 2-storey wing farther to east has upper "cross" windows, and blocked segmental arches below. Rear gabled wing and enormous projecting chimney. Some alterations by Caroe. (5)
West Bitchfield. Tower of 14th century date, altered and extended in the 16th and 17th centuries. The wing to the right of the tower, was refaced in the late 17th century and the house was restored and extended again in 1935. The 3 storey tower has a vaulted ground floor and a staircase set in the thickness of the wall. Listed Grade I. (6)
