Summary : The proposed site of Roman milecastle 21, part of the defences on Hadrian's Wall. There is no evidence on the ground to enable Milecastle 21 to be positioned accurately. If a standard Roman mile spacing was assumed from Milecastle 20, it would have been in the area NY 003 685, partly overlaid by the modern road, but mainly in the area of extensive former quarrying, now under pasture. |
