Summary : A Roman cylindrical milestone (no recorded dimension) was found in 1813 close against Hadrian's Wall nearly opposite Welton Hall. It was cut into several pieces in order to raise it; one piece was lost before Hodgson saw it in 1814. The other pieces are now lost. (Text restored by Birley based on Hodgson's MSS notes.)
