Monument Number 202840

Hob Uid: 202840
Location :
Somerset
Mendip
Leigh-on-Mendip
Grid Ref : ST7030047500
Summary : Probable Roman villa identified from aerial photographs in Mells Park. The villa comprises a range of rooms and a courtyard facing east.
More information : ST 703475 A probable Roman villa site with apparent
traces of a range of rooms and with courtyard facing east were
seen on air photographs. The photographic archive is held by
Archaeological Advisors, Park Street, Heytesbury. (1)

Cropmark remains of linear ditches are visible centred at ST 7033 4765 on aerial photographs in 2006. These ditches may be associated with the villa previously recorded on this site by the above authority, but the remains are too indistinct on aerial photographs taken in 2006 to be certain. It is also possible that these features are natural geological features. (2)
