OLDBURY CAMP

DESCRIPTION + /

An enclosure thought to be of Iron Age date comprising a double bank and ditch (N & E) and single bank and ditch (W) enclosing 10 acres. It has been much disturbed by building and road construction. Excavations have revealed pottery of probable Iron Age date. The ditch also yielded large quantities of medieval pottery. Evidence for iron working was located within the interior and speculation as to whether the camp acted as a trading post with the Forest of Dean. Roman coins and pottery have also been recovered.
