More information : A strip of South Cadbury c 1830 indicates that lynchets were part of the open field strips of the parish, and strip-lynchets exist east of Cadbury Castle at ST 631253, north of it at ST 630255, and at ST 638254 where they have been partially destroyed by tree-planting; they also once existed at ST 637253 but are now ploughed out. (See also ST 62 SW 28). (1)
Two areas of strip lynchets to the east and north of Cadbury Castle were recorded during the re-survey of the monument by RCHME. To the east of the hillfort, centred at ST 63262520, a massive strip lynchet lies below the plough-flattened eastern defences of the hillfort. Further lynchets lie in the field to the south of Castle Lane. Four strip lynchets to the north of the NE entrance of Cadbury Castle, centred at ST 6294 2548, remain in cultivated land. (2) |
