More information : (NZ 08231418) 6 or 7 roman altars in front of Rokeby House, and other altars and inscriptions in niches in the walls probably all came from the Roman Station at Birdoswald on the Roman Wall. (1) Six altars, four are inscribed. (2) Two inscribed altars (Nos 742 and 743) probably from Greta Bridge, but possibly from Birdoswald, where found before 1763. No 2279, an inscribed cylindrical Roman milestone, 79 ins high by 15 ins, found near the SW angle of Greta Bridge Roman fort c.1727. (3) Five Roman altars (four of them inscribed) form part of an ornamental garden feature. F1's sixth 'altar' forms the pedestal of the sun dialat NZ 08241419, but it is obviously a modern copy. The Roman milestone stands in a corner by the house at NZ 08251419. (4)
