THE CHESTERS

A tripartite corridor Roman villa with wings excavated between 1932-35 and 1988. The excavations revealed two phases of occupation dating from the 2nd century to the beginning of the 4th century and from the 4th century to the 5th century or later. Iron smelting was carried out on the site and an alleged lighthouse and alleged beacon were also excavated. Pottery dating from the 2nd to the 4th centuries was also recovered.
