More information : In 1964 Messrs P. Barlow and I.B. Millar excavated an area 40 ft x 20 ft at ST 53105146. The site revealed vestigial traces of rough walling and yielded samian ware, coarse ware, hypocaust tiles, five 1st-3rd c. coins, brooches and glass. At ST 53115145 in the nearby wood (named "little Blacklands" on the Tithe Map) a further piece of walling was found. Of superior construction, it showed traces of coloured plaster on one face. The excavation has been filled in and the site scheduled. There is no trace of the building on the ground. Most of the finds from the site are with Mr. Barlow, though some pottery and tile is on display at Wells Museum. The coins and brooches are with G.C. Boon at the National Museum of Wales.
