More information : (NY 96749558) Peel (NR) (Remains of) (NAT). (1)
The remains of an old watch tower. (2)
The siting given by Authority 1 falls upon the highest part of Darden Pike, approx 1200 feet above sea-level, a heather and pasture covered hill, and the highest point for many miles. There is unbroken visibility in all directions for upwards of 30 miles. While the site is an admirable one for a watch-tower, the remains resemble more those of a cairn, no characteristic features of the Peel can be found in them. There is a mound of loose stones, 8.0m in diameter, with a maximum height of 1.0m, raised upon a crag of living rock. Stones have been taken from the mound to erect a wall around the perimeter, 1.0m high. There are no traces of a ditch or retaining wall of stone. (3)
Report by F1 correct. This is a cairn, a similar misidentification occurred on NY 99 NE 3 and it seems possible that authy 2 was responsible for both. As authority 1 shows no reference it again appears that the OS was the source of information. (4)
