White Spot Cave

Hob Uid: 194738
Location :
Somerset
Sedgemoor
Cheddar
Grid Ref : ST4739054420
Summary : A cave, its entrance located in the foot of a cliff a short distance up Cheddar Gorge from Priddy Hole Slitter. The cave apparently consists of a "lofty fissure". A former guide to Gough's Cave (ST 45 SE 10) informed an Ordnance Survey field investigator of "a tiny opening through which only a boy could pass, within which, on a ledge, stood a little pot which fell to pieces when touched". The cave in question is believed to have been White Spot Cave.
More information : Cave, consisting of a lofty fissure. Painter tells of a
tiny opening which only a boy could pass, winthin which, on a ledge,
stood a little pot which fell to pieces when touched. (1)

The pot seems to have been found in White Spot Cave. Its entrance is
in the foot of the cliff a short distance up the Gorge from Priddy
Hole Slitter at ST 47395442. Mr. C. Painter, the son of the late
Mr. V. Painter, says that the pot was found about half way along
the fissure, but he thinks that the ledge has been destroyed.

Surveyed at 1:2500. (2)
