More information : (ST 41801236). Hinton House (NAT) (1) A large irregular house of various periods, though nothing seems to remain of the 'goodly Manor Place' mentioned by Leland. The earliest surviving part, probably the SW corner, is said to be of c 1630-40. the south front appears to be of c 1700, and other parts date from the 18th and early 19th centuries. (2) II* Hinton House *A large irregular building in rubble and II Stables at Hinton ashlar, partly plastered, with slate roofs. The earliest portion belongs to C.16 and there have been numerous later additions and alterations. Partly with embattled parapet. 2s. Sashes and stone mullioned windows. The interior has some good plaster ceilings and other features of interest. The attached stabling is of 2 s. for the most part and probably C.18 (3)
Hinton House (south range only, formerly listed as part of Hinton House, and stables). Now divided into three, this part of the house retains the principal rooms. A former Medieval house rebuilt c. 1500, extended in the late 16th century, some mid 18th century extensions, probably by Matthew Brettingham. West front remodelled by Sir John Soane c.1796, but taken over by James Wyatt in 1801 and subsequently by Jeffery Wyatt (later Sir Jeffery Wyattville). This was the Poullett family seat from 1429-1973. The house was divided from the 1960s. Grade II*. (4-5)
