More information : [ST 4777 1876] An apparent columner base for a statue, 48 1/2 ins. high x 13 1/2 ins. maximum diameter, inscribed to Valerius Severus (AD 305-6) was found towards the end of May 1930 during the widening of Venn Bridge on the Fosse Way. It was embedded in the south bank of the stream about 6ft. below the surface, and from 3-4ft. from the actual waterway. Wright, however, considers this stone to be a moulded column, probably once part of an arcade, re-used as a milestone beside the Fosse Way. It is now in Taunton Museum. (1-4)
