Summary : Two adjoining bastles at Ottercops Farm, now both used for storage. The earlier, western, bastle was recorded in 1604, the western one is early 17th century in date and was partly rebuilt in the 18th or early 19th century. They are both built of stone rubble with Welsh slate roofs. |

NY 957889 Bastle. (See Type-site NY 88 SE 14). The earlier, western bastle is 24 feet square, only the north wall being original. The larger, eastern bastle was added in 1604. (3)

The bastles date from circa 1560 and from 1604. Until recently there was a kitchen range in the older bastle. This bastle is used occassionally as a lecture room for farmers. (5) |
