More information : [ST 2452 0819]"Yarcombe Inn.17th century but front entirely modernised. Stands on site of and possibly incorporating some remains of guest house of Otterton Priory...Thatched with modern extension to south....At rear some stonework remains .... Some windows have old dripmoulds". Grade 3. (1) The Yarcombe Inn is a two storeyed house with extensive modern additions to the S.W. end of the early part, and also to the S.E. face. It has been very much altered and the only external evidence of its age is a string course of dripmoulding which is in the S.E. face, and is probably the stonework referred to in the Min. of Housing report. (See AO/60/273/7). There are no dripmoulds over the windows. The interior of the Inn was not fully seen, but it seems to have been much modernised. Nothing was seen which could be identified as part of the Guest House of Otterton Priory, or of pre-17th century date, and the Inn seems to be of little architectural importance. Research revealed no evidence that the Inn is on the site of the guest house of Otterton Priory and it is considered unlikely to have any connection. The Vicar of Yarcombe has done some research on this matter but could find no evidence for any such association. The supposition is probably based on the fact that Yarcombe was the property of Otterton Priory before the Dissolution. See ground photograph AO/60/273/8.
