Summary : Site of Augustinian Abbey, originally called Burdlescomb. A house of Austin Canons was founded at Canonsleigh by William de Claville between 1161 and 1173, but in 1284 the house and its property were made over to regular canonesses of the same order. A damaged gateway remains (the west entrance to the priory) and part of a tower. There are also the remains of the priory mill. The 15th century gatehouse (ST 01 NE 22) is a massive rectangular structure with the remains of an embattled parapet on the west and indications of vaulting in the upper storey. |

The gatehouse at Canonsleigh Priory Farm is a massive rectangular structure with the remains of an embattled parapet on the west and indications of vaulting in the upper storey. Fifteenth century. Grade 1. (4)
Much of the ruined mill building still stands to its original height (See illustration card 1). The building described as a chapel on OS 25" is the gatehouse. (See illustration Card 2). There are no other remains. (5)
