Summary : The remains of a bastle located north of the farm at Thockrington were recorded in 1897. The date of construction of the bastle is unknown, but is probably late 16th or 17th century. No trace of such a structure is now visible above ground.
More information : (Area NY 958791) To the north of the farmhouse at Thockrington, there are the remains of a bastle house. (1)

Listed, but no further information. (2)

The area shows evidence of depopulation, (See NY 97 NE 3) but no tradition or trace of a Bastle could be found. (3)

The bastle was possibly built by one of the Shafto family in the late 16th or early 17th centuries. Listed by Cathcart King and by Dodds. (4,5)
