More information : A Roman altar with a Greek inscription found at CORBRIDGE in the vicar's glebe a little before 1754. Now at TULLIE HOUSE [CARLISLE]. The altar is of sandstone, 4'0" high, 20 inches wide, with a jug carved on the left and a patera on the right. The inscription is a Greek hexameter in five lines, the first a little blurred:- Graphical material omitted. "Thou see'st me, an altar of ASTARTE, PULCHER set me up".
