Summary : The site of Roman turret 25B, part of the defences on Hadrian's Wall. It was excavated in 1930; there are no surface remains.

[NY 9358 6944] This was located in 1959, 135 ft. west of the fence west of St. Oswalds' Church and 30 ft. 9 ins. south of the stone wall to the north at this point. Its internal dimensions are 11' 4" N-S and 13'7" W-E. The west, east and south walls are 3 ft. thick and the north wall 5' 3" thick. Its construction is of the type generally associated with Leg.XX but no evidence was found for an occupation later than late Antonine. (2)

The site falls in a pasture field, and is only identifiable by the area of replaced turf at the position excavated. There are no surface remains of this turret. (3)

The turret was located in 1930 138 feet west of the fence west of St Oswald's church. There were 3-4 courses of the S face left (4a). The turret was excavated in 1930 to locate its position only (4b). NY 9358 6944. There is no surface trace. (4)
