More information : [NY 9459 6940] MILECASTLE 25 [GSC] (site of) [T.I.] (1)
About a furlong before reaching the nineteenth milestone, approaching from the east, the platform and ditch of milecastle 25 can be seen on the south side of the road. Its centre is 350 ft. to the nearest fence on its west side. Excavations in 1930 found it to be 70 ft. wide from E-W with side walls 10 ft. thick. Its north wall is under the road. (2-4)
Resurveyed at 1/2500. The remains consist of a low mutilated grassy platform, with superficial traces of a ditch on its south side. (5)
The platform, described above (5), is up to 1.0m high and a superficial hollow on the south side may indicate a ditch; there is no sign of a spur road. The milecastle is possibly of long axis type. (6)
Schduled (7)
The milecastle was seen as a slight earthwork and mapped from air photographs. (8)
Located on the English Heritage map of Hadrian's Wall 2010. (9)
