Primary text:

'To the Deities of the Emperors and ....'

Secondary text:

'To Unconquerable Silvanus Gaius Tetius Veturius Micianus, prefect
of the Sebosian Cavalry Regiment, on fulfilment of his vow willingly
set this up for taking a wild boar of remarkable fineness which
many of his predecessors had been unable to bag.'

Bruce; PRAEF AIAE SEBOSIA Hueb.; PR[E]F ALAE SEBOSIAN R.G.C.

In CW 2 xxxvi (1936) 113 Mr. (now Professor) Richmond observed that
this inscription 'may suggest that the ala Sebosiana once occupied
Binchester'. He now (1955) considers that since the secondary
dedication is unlikely to be earlier than the third century, when
Binchester was occupied by the ala Vettonum, Micianus may well have
been on a visit from Lancaster, where his regiment was stationed at
the time. (3)

NY 9974 3906. The altar is now preserved within the old
rectory, Stanhope. (4)

Access to the old rectory unobtainable during field investigation. (5)

According to public feedback the altar is now in the north aisle of Stanhope church. (6)
