Summary : Remains of two bastles. The northernmost appears to have been rebuilt, though the plinth along the base of the north wall may have formed part of the original structure. The southern bastle has been altered to form a private dwelling, and is Listed Grade II. Both buildings are thought to date from the 16th or 17th century.

Two peel houses shown at NY 8327 9865 and NY 8325 9858 on plan (2) are described by Tomlinson as built of Roman masonry. (2-3)

'A' - NY 83279865. A private dwelling constructed of large hewn stone blocks. There are no traces of the original entrances, window or access to the upper storey.

'B' - NY 83259858 Of similar purpose and construction as 'A'. The original upper storey door, now blocked, is visible in the south wall and the ground floor entrance, in the east wall, has been converted into a window. Both buildings are probably 16th or 17th century.
Examination of the building material revealed no trace of Roman masonry (see illustration card and GPs). (4)

NY 832985. Listed as two bastles (see NY 88 SE 14 for type site)(6)

'A'. The only remains of the original bastle would appear to be a plinth of large hewn stones along the base of the modern north wall.
'B' As described by Authority 4, a modernised bastle measuring 10.4m east-west by 7.3m. (7)

The southern bastle is Listed Grade II. (8)
