More information : (NY 83778319) Reginald of Durham, writing c1140, describes a miracle worked by St Cuthbert at the church at Bellingham. The miracle, which seems to have occurred a little before Reginald wrote, concerns the healing power of the water from St Cuthbert's Well which is still outside the churchyard wall. (1) St Cuthbert's Well, a covered stone part just outside the churchyard wall, still flows. (in 1880) (2) Called (1871) "Cuddy's Well" (3) Below the church of St Cuthbert, at the foot of a steep bank, is a stone part, still used regularly, and known locally as Cuddy's Well. It is octagonally shaped, with domed top. The water issues from a modern iron pipe in one side, into a gridded drain. The stonework of the part has the appearance of considerable age. (4) The present part probably dates from the Georgian period. (5) Condition unchanged. (6)
