Summary : The possible site of Roman turret 31A, part of the defences on Hadrian's Wall. The area is buried beneath a road, therefore there are no visible remains.
More information : [NY 8557 7118] Turret 31A (Site of) (1) Turret 31A should, by measurement, be some 300 yds. west of the west wall of Brocolitia, close to the foot of the slope, known locally as the Strands: its south face should be discoverable below the grass verge. (2) There are no visible remains of this turret; the site is covered by a modern road. (3) Investigated in 1966 by R.W.Harris, Durham University, but the turret remains unlocated at the appropriate distance from mile castle 31. (4) There is no surface trace of the turret; grid reference NY 8556 7118 indicates the measured position only. (5) Scheduled (6) Located on the English Heritage map of Hadrian's Wall 2010. (7)
