| Summary : The site of a Second World War type 24 pillbox is visible on historical aerial photographs. The pillbox is located west of the BAC aircraft factory, south of Filton airfield (Monument Number 1395348). The pillbox faced northeast and also had a covered entrance on its west corner, so a slight variation on the standard Type 24 design. Along with another identical pillbox to the east (Monument Number 1591764), appears to be protecting a possible radar station, beacon or operations room (Monument Number 1591790). It was removed after by 1990. |
| More information : The site of a Second World War type 24 pillbox is visible on historical aerial photographs and has been mapped as part of the Severn Vale NMP project. The pillbox IS located west of the BAC aircraft factory, south of Filton airfield (Monument Number 1395348) at ST 59667 79451. The pillbox faced northeast and also had a covered entrance on its west corner, so a slight variation on the standard Type 24 design. Along with another identical pillbox to the east (Monument Number 1591764), appears to be protecting a possible radar station, beacon or operations room (Monument Number 1591790).
