More information : Remains of BARRY deep water river barge beached circa 1946 between the east foreshore of the Severn estuary and Gloucester Sharpness canal at Purton. Forms part of the ship's graveyard or hulk assemblage known as the Purton Hulks. (1)
BARRY deep water river barge, build date unknown, but probably pre 1920s. Noted to be a converted coasting barge for use in deep water. Wood barge open double ended. Beached circa 1946. Gross 59.04 Ton, Net 56.04 ton B.D. (2)
Numbered 13 according to Barnett 2004 and first visible on aerial photographs by 1946. It is noted to be on an outflow and mostly submerged by 1969. Just visible in 1979. Not visible in 1996, possibly some remains intact. (3)
Report notes that vessel beached and toppled into dredging pill circa 1980, few timbers remain exposed and are subjected to constant erosion. (4) |
