Summary : Remains of GLENBY, part of the hulk assemblage at Purton to shore up the bank between the River Severn and Gloucester Sharpness canal, beached pre1945. Wooden Canoed Stern Stroudwater Barge built c1929 by Joseph Barnard, Gloucester.
More information : Wreck of wooden barge GLENBY beached pre1945 between the east foreshore of the Severn Estuary and Gloucester and Sharpness Canal at Purton. Forms part of the Ship's graveyard or Hulk assemblage known as the Purton Hulks. (1)

GLENBY built c1929 by Joseph Barnard, Gloucester. Canoed Stern Stroudwater Barge. Beached before 1945.
Length c68.4 ft, Width c.12.6ft, Depth c.3.11ft, Gross tonnage c.40-80. (2)

Numbered 5 according to Barnett 2004 and first visible in 1946, , partially buried in 1969 and no longer visible from aerial photographs in 1996. (3)

Some planking and stern posts still visible above ground (Source 2, Figs 1-5)
