Summary : A Roman small town or roadside settlement has been identified about 150m south-west of Billingford Hall. It was occupied between the 1st century AD and circa 750 AD. The settlement seems to have emerged along the Roman road which gave it control over the movement along the Denver to Brampton road at the River Wensum crossing. The settlement was identified through surface finds first discovered in 1934, aerial photographs interpretation in 2008, excavations in 1991 to 1992 and watching briefs between 1995 and 2002. |
More information : Besides the settlement indicated by scattered finds and recorded as monument UID 130984, a more precise area centred around TG0084020106 has been identified as a Roman roadside settlement and was designated as scheduled monument on 8th August 2010.
