Summary : A WW2 defended area incorporating the 19th century fort of Shornemead. The defended area comprised cells of barbed wire entanglements around the old fort and wartime emplacements including coastal and emergency gun batteries and a number of pillboxes. The remains were seen on RAF aerial photographs taken in 1942-1945 and mapped as part of the English Heritage: Hoo Peninsula Landscape project.

The defended area comprised cells of barbed wire entanglements around the old fort and wartime emplacements including coastal and emergency gun batteries and a number of pillboxes.
