Historic England Research Records

Monument Number 1531331

Hob Uid: 1531331
Location :
Wiltshire
Wilsford cum Lake
Grid Ref : SU1188039800
Summary : Slight circular mound; possible bowl barrow within the Wilsford Down barrow group (SU 13 NW 1).
More information : Slight round mound, no more that 0.1m high, on a modern fence line to the SE of barrow 68 (SU 13 NW 107). No barrow has previously been recorded here; it might be considered unlikely that Grinsell and other fieldworkers would have missed a barrow mound here, so it may be a fortuitous accumulation of material close to a fence junction. However, a small indistinct ring ditch is visible at this location on one set of vertical aerial photographs (1A), suggesting at least the possibility that this is a small bowl barrow of about the same diameter as barrow 73 (SU 13 NW 114), about 12m.
