Summary : The approximate site of Roman turret 40A, part of the defences on Hadrian's Wall. It was located by excavation in 1912, there is no surface trace of the turret in area NY 74016751.

Turret 40A, 624 yards beyond the milecastle, was examined in 1946. It had narrow walls, and had been almost completely destroyed during the Roman occupation. (2-3)

No visible remains. (4)

The turret was located in 1912 (5a). No surface trace of the turret in area NY 74016751. (5)
