MI AMIGO

ALTERNATIVE NAME:  MAGDA MARIA, BON JOUR, OLGA, MARGARETHE

Remains of 1980 wreck of the MI AMIGO or Radio Caroline ship, used to broadcast several radio stations since the early 1960's. She foundered 11.8 miles south of Walton-on-the-Naze Light after dragging her anchor and taking on water in a force 10 gale. Built of steel in West Germany in 1921, she started life as a sailing cargo ship, but was engine-driven at the time of her loss.
