Milecastle 63

Hob Uid: 1520597
Location :
Cumbria
Carlisle
Stanwix Rural
Grid Ref : NY4315059730
Summary : The possible site of Milecastle 63 at Walby West, part of the defences supporting Hadrian's Wall.
More information : The possible site of Milecastle 63, postulated by the results of the Hadrian's Wall Milecastles Project. Geophysical survey identified remains thought to be that of the milecastle in 1980, however, evaluation work in 2000 proved the anomaly to be a section of Hadrian's Wall. The milecastle is now believed to lie under the track immediately to the south of the wall identified in the geophysical survey. (1)
