| More information : Three possible sections of Dere Street Roman Road are visible as earthworks and fossilised boundaries on historic air photos. These sections are centred at SE291 896. Between SE2931 8954 and SE2927 8959 a small trackway known as Water Lane follows the projected course of Dere Street to Bedale Beck. On the opposite bank four parallel ditches are visible along the project course at SE 2919 8963, though these may be medieval furrows following the alignment of the road, rather than remains of the road itself. The on the other side of Leeming Lane early air photos show that a hedgerow followed the project route of the Roman Road. (1-3) |
