The Heights East

Hob Uid: 1506985
Location :
Leeds
Non Civil Parish
Grid Ref : SE2566733135
Summary : A tower block devlopment known as The Heights East, constructed as part of a public housing project, opened in 1960. The wider area between Poplar Way and The Heights saw a number of tower blocks for public housing being built between 1960-1965.
More information : The blocks were commissioned by Leeds County Borough Council. (1)

The Primary and Alternate addresses are the individual addresses of the two remaining blocks; both are current and of equal status. The demolished blocks are known to have been sited one each next to a remaining block. The individual
addresses of the demolished blocks are unknown. The date of demolition is also unknown.

The Alternate Name is the name that was given to the contract for the development. (1)

The Heights East were officially opened by Mr Charles Pannell MP on 29th September 1960. (2)

A long-time local resident notes that the name the Heights East refers only to two blocks; therefore the reference to the demolished blocks in source 1 probably is to a site elsewhere in the wider area. (3)
