Summary : Large, multi-phase house. The oldest section was built as a bastle in the 16th century. This was heightened and extended to the north in the late 17th century, where it incorporated a second bastle aligned with the first bastle, and further extended in the mid/late 18th century. The top floor of the tower, the east wing and the north study/chapel were added circa 1860. The stone-built house is L-shaped in plan, with the three storey tower to the left of the centre. Damaged by fire in 1889. |

Clargill Hall has a tower in the peel form; the greater part of the building dates from 1678-9. The tower was heightened in the nineteenth century. (2-3)

From outward appearances the tower is a likely peel, but this could not be verified without internal access, which was not available. It forms the central block of the Hall, the latter as described. See photograph. (5)
