More information : [NY 7953 4973] At LIMESTONE BRAE lies an overturned, socketed cross base, of roughly dressed stone. (1) Siting and description correct. See G.P. AO/56/412/8. (2) This overturned socket stone is slightly tapered annd measures 0.8m by 0.7m and was formerly 0.9m high. The socket (now in the south facing side) is 0.3m by 0.2m and 0.15m deep. To the immediate northeast of the base is an old track visible as a slight terrace way running north-west/southeast parallel to the modern road and it is probable this base is the remains of a medieval wayside cross set up to mark the route and is on or very near its original site. There is no trace of the shaft or head. Surveyed at 1:2500. (3)
