More information : Earthwork remains of a field system of uncertain date consisting of linear ditches and banks are visible centred on aerial photographs in the surrounding fields of Small Down Hillfort (UID 200348). The most prominent traces of the earthworks are located in the fields to the south of the Hillfort (centred at approximately ST 6671 4049), further fainter traces of field boundaries can be seen in the fields to the north (centred at approximately ST 6653 4078). The date of these features is unknown, they could be related to the Iron Age hillfort, or could be the remains of Medieval/ Post Medieval cultivation. These features are visible on aerial photographs taken by English Heritage in 2006. (1) |
