St Cuthbert's Court

Summary : A complex of 14 tower blocks of six and eight storeys and an H-plan tower block of eighteen storeys, all with deck access. All were constructed as public housing as part of the St Cuthbert's Village redevelopment scheme. The whole development has since been demolished except for the eighteen-storey block. The eighteen-storey point block consists of 85 dwellings. The three eight-storey blocks consisted of 96 dwellings. The ten six-storey blocks consisted of 144 dwellings. Other low-rise developments were included in the village. Construction was approved by committee in 1967.
More information : St Cuthbert's Village was constructed under Gateshead County Borough Council. The Primary address is the only remaining tower block of St Cuthbert's Village. Other blocks lay on the opposite site of Askew Rd, facing the point block. At the time of writing there is no new development on the site. The Alternate Name was the name given to the contract for the development. The date of demolition of the eight and six-storey blocks is unknown. (1)

The initial layout plan was designed by the Borough Architect, A. L. Berry. The tender agreed with Stanley Miller Ltd., for the contract was £2,783,356. Clifford Tee and Gale were the consulting architects for Stanley Miller Ltd. (2)
