More information : A large subcircular ditched enclosure is visible on aerial photographs as a cropmark in fields south west of Fair Cross, Nettlecombe. Centred at approximately ST 0503 3904, the enclosure is defined by an area of darker crop growth, probably a boundary ditch, measuring up to 4 metres wide. The enclosure itself measures some 72 metres across. The north-western edge of the enclosure has been destroyed by a hedgeline and is not visible. Its precise date is uncertain, but it may well date to the later Prehistoric period, possibly the Iron Age. Further survey is required. (1).
The later prehistoric or Roman oval ditched enclosure described above is recorded on 2018 Historic England oblique aerial photographs and probably indicates the site of a settlement. These aerial photographs suggest there are entrance gaps to the south-west and east. (2)
