Summary : A section of Roman road running through the Roman town of Cataractonium is visible as a cropmark on air photographs.
More information : section of Roman road running through the Roman town of Cataractonium is visible as a cropmark on air photographs. It is visible as a south-west to north-east aligned agger between SE2245 9911 and SE2274 9925, a distance of approximately 320m. It may have been a route into the fort, which lies on the west side of the town. It intersects with Dere Street within the town at SE2253 9914 (see UIDS 1496543 & 1031439). A section of this road was archaeologically excavated in 1959 in advance of its destruction for the re-routing of the A1. (1-4)
