Summary : Two Roman inscribed stones were found in 1879 during the restoration of the church at Brough. One is a Tombstone, the other a dedication slab of AD 197.

restoration of the church at Brough.

One was a tombstone, 13" x 23", with a Greek inscription commemoratingyouth of 16. Now in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge. Casts in
Carlisle Museum and Brough Church.The other was a dedication slab of
white standstone, 32" x 24", and the inscription dates it to AD 197.
It is now built into the chruch porch. (1)

The dedication slab is built into the inner face of the west wall of
the porch. See photograph. (2)
