Summary : A Second World War slit trench, air raid shelter or gun emplacement is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1942 as an earthwork, though it has subsequently been levelled on aerial photographs taken in 1948 and is visible as a crop mark. The slit trench is defined by a narrow linear ditch with flanking spoil heaps. It is chevron shaped, with the open side facing north. A broad V shaped spoil heap is located 3 metres to the south of the slit trench. This spoil heap is chevron shaped and suggests the location of a gun emplacement. |

The site is centred on ST 3544 5984 and extends over an area which measures 7 metres north-south and 8 metres east-west. The slit trench is defined by a narrow linear ditch with flanking spoil heaps. It is chevron shaped, with the open side facing north. A broad V shaped spoil heap is located 3 metres to the south of the slit trench. This spoil heap is chevron shaped, measures 5 metres wide by 11 metres long and suggests the location of a gun emplacement (1-3). |
