Casterton Old Hall

Summary : A former house, situated to the west of the church across Casterton Beck, now used as accomodation for a Girls School. It was built in the 17th century, with later additions and internally incorporating some older materials. It is built of stone rubble with "slobbered" morar (i.e. where it has been brought flush to the surface of the stones), the roof is of slate. It is constructed to a central entrance plan with an extension to the east. It has two storeys plus basement and attic levels. Some older materials are incorporated into the interior, such as Tudor panelling and fireplace overmantle of around 1530-1540, and there are built in cupboards dated 1613.
