Summary : A guardhouse built in the early 1950s at RAF Wartling radar station. It was constructed as part of the Rotor programme to modernise the United Kingdom's radar defences. It was designed to resemble a bungalow and featured a projecting rear porch, which housed a stairwell leading to an access tunnel that led to an underground R3 operations bunker. Guardhouses contained an armoury, store, rest room and lavatories. They were single-storey structures capped with a flat, concrete roof, above which a pitched roof contained water tanks. Sometime after 1980 the guardhouse was converted into a private house. The connection between the house and the bunker has been demolished. |
