CHAIN HOME STATION 26M

DESCRIPTION + /

The site of a Second World War Mobile Radio Unit at Cedars established by September 1940. This was reserve equipment for the Chain Home radar station at Bawdsey (CH26) in event of it being damaged by enemy action. It comprised an aerial mounted in a trailer and other receiver and transmission equipment stored in vehicles. Aerial photography from 1971 shows that the site was originally positioned in two parts at TM 345 427 and TM 347 417. However, all that survives at the site is a single, long, curviform building at TM 3450 4274.
