Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy at Belvoir that was built to deflect enemy bombing from Royal Air Force Bottesford airfield. This was a 'Q-type' night decoy, which displayed a series of lights to simulate an active airfield. It is referenced as being in use during 1942. By the late 1960s the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive. Further bombing decoy sites for Royal Air Force Bottesford were located at Tithby and Foston. |
More information : A Second World War 'Q-type' bombing decoy located at Belvoir (SK 805 342). It was constructed to deflect enemy bombing from Royal Air Force Bottesford airfield. It is referenced as being active on 20-MAR-1942. Further bombing decoy sites for RAF Bottesford were located at Tithby (SK 709 347) and Foston (SK 872 408). (1)
By 1968 the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the Belvoir decoy survive. (2)
