| Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy at Great Limber that was built to deflect enemy bombing from Royal Air Force Elsham Wolds airfield. This was a 'Q-type' night decoy, which displayed a series of lights to simulate an active airfield. It is referenced as being in use between 1941 and 1942. By the 1970s the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive. A further bombing decoy for Royal Air Force Elsham Wolds was located at South Ferriby. |
More information : A Second World War 'Q-type' bombing decoy located at Great Limber (TA 140 074). It was constructed to deflect enemy bombing from RAF Elsham Wolds. It is referenced as being active between 01-AUG-1941 to 12-AUG-1942. A further bombing decoy for RAF Elsham Wolds was located at South Ferriby (TA 000 203). (1)
Aerial photography from 1978 shows that the site had been given over to agricultural usage and no features of the decoy survive. (2)
