Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy at Maxey that was built to deflect enemy bombing from Royal Air Force Wittering airfield. This was a 'Q-type' night decoy, which displayeda sequence of lights to simulate an active airfield. It is referenced as being in operation from June 1940 to August 1942. A covered control building and a blast wall survive on the site in good condition. A further bombing decoy site for Royal Air Force Wittering was located at Alwalton. |
More information : A Second World War 'Q-type' bombing decoy located at Maxey (TF 143 077). It was constructed to deflect enemy night bombing from RAF Wittering. It is referenced as being in use between 19-JUN-1940 to 12-AUG-1942. A further bombing decoy site for RAF Wittering was located at Alwalton (TL 152 949). (1)
