Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy located at Glentham. It was constructed to deflect enemy night bombing from Royal Air Force Hemswell airfield. This was a 'Q-type' night decoy, which displayed a series of lights to simulate an active airfield. It is referenced as being in use on 12th August 1942. By the mid 1970s the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive. A further bombing decoy for Royal Air Force Hemswell airfield was located at Toft Grange. |
More information : A Second World War bombing decoy located at Glentham (TF 011 893). This was a 'Q-type' decoy constructed to deflect enemy night bombing from RAF Hemswell. It is referenced as being in use on 12-AUG-1942. A further bombing decoy for RAF Hemswell was located at Toft Grange (TF 033 869). A third decoy was possibly located in Caenby, but cannot be detected on aerial photography and a specific location cannot be found. (1)
By 1974 the site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive, as seen by aerial photography. (2)
